Factors Affecting Bank Reserves and
Condition Statement of F.R. Banks

H.4.1

For immediate release
November 30, 1967

The average of daily figures of total member bank reserves held during the
week ended November 29, decreased a net of $10 million to $24,611 million.
Estimated currency and coin of member banks increased $212 million and their
reserve balances at the Federal Reserve Banks decreased $222 million. Estimated
required reserves decreased $116 million; and estimated excess reserves increased
$106 million to $323 million. Excess reserves exceeded member bank borrowings at
the Federal Reserve Banks by $204 million, compared with the revised figure of
$90 million the week before.
The principal changes reducing average reserve balances with Federal
Reserve Banks was a decrease of $245 million in Federal Reserve float, and increases
of $519 million in Treasury deposits with Federal Reserve Banks, and $258 million
in currency in circulation. The principal offsetting changes were an increase of
$635 million in U. S. Government securities bought outright, and a decrease of
$266 million in "other" F. R. accounts (net).
Total Reserve Bank credit increased
$306 million.
As of Wednesday, November 29, 1967, holdings of U. S. Government
securities bought outright were $325 million higher than a week earlier, U. S.
Government securities held under repurchase agreements were $42 million higher, and
member bank borrowings were $46 million higher.

Federal Reserve Banks for foreign account were $9,410 million, an increase of
$1,004 million for the x^eek and an increase of $1,960 million from the comparable
date a year ago.
