STATEMENT FOR THE PRESS Released for publication Friday morning, May 5; not earlier. S t, 2763* Federal Reserve Board, May 4, 1922, CONDITION OF FEDERAL RESERVE BANKS. Substantial increases for the week in earning assets, deposits and Federal reserve note circulation are indicated in the Federal Reserve Board’ s weekly bank statement issued as at close of business on May 3> 1922 . Discounted b ills on hard increased by $ 9 *300, 000, acceptances bought in open market - by $2 4 ,7 0 0 ,0 0 0 , and Government securities - by about $4 2 ,0 0 0 ,0 0 0 . All classes of deposits show larger totals than the week before: Government deposits — by $ 2 7 , 200, 000, members’ reserve de posits - by $ 26 , 100,000 and other deposits, composed mainly of cashier’ s checks and non-members' clearing accounts, - by $ 5 ,8 0 0 ,0 0 0 . Considerable increases in Federal reserve note circulation are reported by the New York, Atlanta and San Francisco banks, while the other reserve banks show little change or small decreases. The banks report •* . a decrease of $2 ,100,000 in their aggregate net lia b ilities on Federal reserve bank notes in circu lation. Gold reserves show a nominal decline, while other cash reserves, i. e ., silver and legals, declined by $ 5 ,6 0 0 ,0 0 0 . The reserve ratio, in consequence of the above changes, shows a decline for the week from 78.3 to 76 .7 per cent. Gold movements in some volume from New York and Cleveland mainly to Atlanta and Kansas City are shown. Gold reserves of the New York bank show a decrease of $2 4 ,0 00 ,0 0 0 , those of the Cleveland bank - a decrease of about $ 6 , 000, 000, while smaller decreases aggregating about $ 2 *100,000 are shown for the Boston, Dallas and San Francisco banks* Atlanta shows the^largest gain in gold reserves, v i z ., by $1 0 ,2 00,000, Kansas City with an increase of $6 ,6 0 0 ,0 0 0 following next in Ordetf, while smaller increases, aggregating $1 4 ,7 00 ,0 0 0 are shown for the remaining reserve banks. Holdings of Government paper increased from $179,000,000 to $190,500,000. Of the total held, $1 50,900,000, or 79*2 per cent, were secured by Liberty and other U» S* bonds, $8 ,7 0 0 ,0 0 0 , or 4.6 per cent, - by Victory notes, $18,500,000, or 9*7 per cent, - by Treasury notes and $1 2 ,3 0 0 ,0 0 0 , or 6 ,5 per cent, - by Treasury certificates, compared with $1 5 0 ,00 0 ,0 0 0, $2 ,5 0 0 ,0 0 0 , ^13,600,000 and $ 6 , 900,000 reported the week before.
