CONDITION OF FEDERAL RESERVE BANKS

The consolidated statement of c o n d i t i o n of the Federal reserve banks on April
29, made p u b l i c by the Federal Reserve Board, shows decreases of $12,400,000 in holdings of discounted b i l l # , of $8,700,000 i n acceptances purchased in open market, and
of $4,000,000 in Government s e c u r i t i e s , r e s u l t i n g in an aggregate reduction of
$25,100,000 i n t o t a l earning a s s e t s . Total deposits went down $30,400,000 and
Federal reserve note c i r c u l a t i o n $3,800,000, while dash r e s e r v e s increased
$7,400,000.
A d e c l i n e of $21,600,000 in holdings of discounted b i l l s
Federal Reserve Bank of New York and of $4,600,000 by Boston,
bank shows an increase of $6,400,000 i n discount holdings and
chow increases of $2,400,000 each. The seven remaining banks
changes f o r the week i n discount holdings.

Acceptance holdings of the New York reserve bank went down $6,700,000 during
the week. The San Francisco and Boston banks a l s o report decreases of $2,700,000
and $2,300,000, r e s p e c t i v e l y , i n t h i s item, while Chicago shows an increase of
$2,500,000. The System's holdings of Treasury c e r t i f i c a t e s of indebtedness declined $2,000,000 and of Treasury notes $2,200,000, while holdings of U. S. bonds
increased $200,000.
The p r i n c i p a l changes in Federal reserve note c i r c u l a t i o n during the week comp r i s e increases of $2,800,000 and. $1,500,000 reported by the Cleveland and P h i l a d e l phia reserve banks, r e s p e c t i v e l y , and a decrease of $1,900,000 reported by Richmond,
and. of $1,500,000 by San Francisco.
