CONDITION OF FEDERAL RESERVE BANKS
Net liquidation of $24,300,000 of d1&counted bills and of $18,200,000 ~!
United Stat~s securitie~, as against an increase of $11,200,000 in bills pur•
chased in open market, is shmvn in the Federal Reserve Board's weekly bank statement issued as at close of business on March 7 1 1923• A decrease for the week of
$33,800,000 in the holdings of discounted bills reported by the three Eastern
banks and the banks of Bicbnond, St, Louis and San Francisco is partly offset by
moderate increases shown for the other six banks. Deposit liabilities show a
reduction of $9,5QO,OOO, While Federal teser~e note circulation increased by
$9,400,000, Total cash reserves show a· nominal decrease, as against an increase
of $24,300,000 in non~reserve cash. The reserve ratio remained unchanged at
76.2 per cent.
Gold ·reserves show a gp.in for the week of $10,800,000. The New York bank
reports an increase of about $12,000,000 in its gold reserves, Philadelphia, •
an·· increase of $5 1 500 1 000, aM. Minneapolis - an increase of $5,100,000. SJn&ller
increases aggregating $9 ,goo ,000 are shown for the Boston, Chidago 1 Dallas and
San Francisco banks. Cleveland reports a deerease in its gpld reserves of ·
$13,900,000, while the four remaining banks show decreases aggregating $4,900,00Q.
Holdings of paper secured by Government obligations show a reduction for the
Of the total held on March 7, $152,~00~000, ·
or 46.1 per cent, were secured by u. s. bonds, $2,1CO,OOOJ or .6 per cent, by.
·
Victory notes, $165,600,000, or 50.2 per cent, by TreasUry notes, and $10 1 300 1 000 1
or 3.1 per cent, by Treasury eertifica.tes, compared with $167 ,!$00 1 000,: $2,200,000,
$173,7CO,OOO and $7,600,000 reported the week before,
week trom $356,000,000 to $330,100,000.
