Factors Affecting Bank Reserves and
Condition Statement of F.R. Banks

The average of daily figures of total member bank reserves held during
the week ended March 6 increased a net of $49 million to $19,526 million* Esti­
mated currency and coin of member banks decreased $lf3 million and their reserve
balances at the Federal Reserve Banks increased $222 million. Estimated^required
reserves increased $71 million; and estimated excess reserves decreased 5p22
million to $445 million. Excess reserves exceeded member bank borrowings at the
Federal Reserve Banks by $303 million, compared with the revised figure of $336
million the week before.
The principal changes supplying average reserve balances with Federal
Reserve Banks were increases of $147 million in Federal Reserve holdings of
U. S. Government securities and $69 million in Federal Reserve float, and de­
creases of $101 million in "other" deposits with Federal Reserve Banks and $42^
million in foreign deposits with Federal Reserve Banks. The principal offsetting
changes were a decrease of $35 million in gold stock and increases of $55 million
in Treasury deposits with Federal Reserve Banks and $51 million in currency in
circulation. Total Reserve Bank credit increased $225 million.
