STATEMENT FOE THE PRESS 3-262 Federal Reserve Board March 5, 1931. Released for p u b l i c a t i o n Friday morning, Mar., b; not e a r l i e r . CONDITION OF FEDERAL RESERVE BANKS The d a i l y average volume of Federal r e s e r v e "bank c r e d i t o u t s t a n d i n g d u r i n g the week ending March 4, as r e p o r t e d "by t h e Federal r e s e r v e "banks, was $921,000,000, an i n c r e a s e of $8,000,000 compared with t h e p r e c e d i n g week and a d e c r e a s e of $242,000,000 compared with t h e corresponding week i n 1930. On March 4 t o t a l r e s e r v e "bank c r e d i t amounted to $908,000,000, an i n c r e a s e of $4,000,000 f o r the week. This i n c r e a s e corresponds with an i n c r e a s e of $6,000,000 i n money i n c i r c u l a t i o n and a decrease of $22,000,000 i n Treasury c u r rency, o f f s e t i n p a r t "by an i n c r e a s e of $9,000,000 i n monetary gold s t o c k and dec r e a s e s of $13,000,000 i n member bank r e s e r v e "balances and $2,000,000 i n unexpended c a p i t a l f u n d s , e t c . Holdings of d i s c o u n t e d b i l l s d e c l i n e d $2,000,000 each a t t h e F e d e r a l Reserve Banks of Cleveland and A t l a n t a and i n c r e a s e d $6,000,000 a t the F e d e r a l Reserve Bank of San F r a n c i s c o , a l l F e d e r a l r e s e r v e banks combined showing a small i n c r e a s e f o r the week. The System's h o l d i n g s of b i l l s bought i n open market decreased $5,000,000 and of T r e a s u r y notes $15,000,000, while h o l d i n g s of Treasury c e r t i f i c a t e s and b i l l s i n c r e a s e d $14,000,000.
