FEDERAL RESERVE Factors Affecting Bank Reserves and Condition Statement of F.R. Banks For immediate release March 28, 1963 H.4.1 The average of daily figures of total member bank reserves held during the week ended March 27 increased $79 million to $19,586 million- Estimated cur rency and coin of member banks increased $37 million and their reserve balances at the Federal Reserve Banks increased $42 million. Estimated required reserves decreased $19 million; and estimated excess reserves increased $98 million to $478 million. Excess reserves exceeded member bank borrowings at the Federal Reserve Banks by $237 million, compared with the revised figure of $323 million the week before. The principal changes supplying average reserve balances with Federal Reserve Banks were increases of $89 million in U. S. Government securities bought outright and $116 million held ■under repurchase agreement and $184 million in member bank borrowings, and a decrease of $96 million in currency in circulation. The principal offsetting changes were a decrease of $274 million in Federal Reserve float and an increase of $169 million in Treasury deposits with Federal Reserve Banks. Total Reserve Bank credit increased $ll4 million. As of Wednesday, March 27 , holdings of U. S. Government securities bought outright were $4l million lower than a week earlier, U. S. Government securities held under repurchase agreement were $124 million higher, and member bank borrowings were $65 million higher.
