Factors Affecting Bank Reserves and
Condition Statement of F.R. Banks

For immediate release
June 13, 1963

The average of daily figures of total member hank reserves held during
the week ended June 12 decreased a net of $30 million to $19,409 million.
Estimated currency and coin of member banks decreased $35 million and their
reserve balances at the Federal Reserve Banks increased $5 million. Estimated
required reserves decreased $83 million; and estimated excess reserves increased
$53 million to $398 million. Excess reserves exceeded member bank borrowings at
the Federal Reserve Banks by $l48 million, compared with the revised figure of
$127 million the week before.
The principal changes supplying average reserve balances with Federal
Reserve Banks were increases of $322 million in U- S. Government securities bought
outright, $64 million in Federal Reserve float, and $32 million in member bank
borrowings. The principal offsetting changes were increases of $199 million in
currency in circulation, $131 million in Treasury deposits with Federal Reserve
Banks, and $49 million in foreign deposits with Federal Reserve Banks. Total
Reserve Bank credit increased $393 million.
As of Wednesday, June 12, holdings of U. S . Government securities bought
outright were $l4 million higher than a week earlier, U. S. Government securities
held under repurchase agreement were $117 million higher, and member bank
borrowings were $84 million higher.

On June 12, 1963, U. S. Government securities held in custody by the
Federal Reserve Banks for foreign account were $7,985 million, an increase of
$23 million for the week and an increase of $2,264 million from the comparable
date a year ago.
