CONDITION OF FEDERAL RESERVE BANKS

The c o n s o l i d a t e d statement of c o n d i t i o n of the F e d e r a l Reserve banks on July 1,
made p u b l i c by t h e F e d e r a l Reserve Board., shows an i n c r e a s e of $92,600,000 i n t o t a l
earning a s s e t s and of $15, COO,000 i n Federal r e s e r v e n o t e c i r c u l a t i o n , and a d e c r e a s e of $31,900,000 in cash r e s e r v e s • All c l a s s e s of earning a s s e t s show i n c r e a s e s f o r t h e week - discounted- b i l l s by $5^,200,000, acceptances purchased i n
open market by $7,400,000, and U. S. Government s e c u r i t i e s by $23,000,000.
I n c r e a s e s i n h o l d i n g s of discounted b i l l s a r e reported by a l l Federal Reserve
ban v s except San F r a n c i s c o and Cleveland, which show d e c l i n e s of $12,100,000 and
$5,900,000, r e s p e c t i v e l y . The p r i n c i p a l i n c r e a s e s were: New York $30,200,000,
Chicago $17,100,000, Boston $10,300,000, P h i l a d e l p h i a $7,500,000, and Richmond

$6,100,000.

The Federal Reserve Bank of New York shows an i n c r e a s e of $11,400,000 in
holdings of a c c e p t a n c e s purchased i n open market and Boston a n i n c r e a s e of
$2,400,000, w h i l e t h e Minneapolis bank r e p o r t s a d e c r e a s e of $2,600,000, P h i l a d e l p h i a - $2,400,000, and Kansas C i t y - $2,200,000. The System's h o l d i n g s of Treasury
notes went up $23,500,000 and of Treasury c e r t i f i c a t e s of indebtedness $9,500,000,
while h o l d i n g s of U. S. bonds went down $4,000,000.
The p r i n c i p a l changes in Federal r e s e r v e note c i r c u l a t i o n d u r i n g t h e week
comprise an i n c r e a s e of $10,200,000 r e p o r t e d by the New York bank, and i n c r e a s e s
of $6,000,000 and $2,800,000, r e s p e c t i v e l y , by t h e San F r a n c i s c o and P h i l a d e l p h i a
r e s e r v e banks.

page 4, in somewhat s i m p l i f i e d form, t h e statement of t h e Federal r e s e r v e a g e n t s '
accounts which h e r e t o f o r e has been shown on page 5*
