CONDITION OF FEDERAL RESERVE BAMKS,
Total accession s o f $15,200,000 o f gold and of $7,900,000 of other cash
reserves, accompanied by a redu ction of $36,200,000 in Federal reserve note
c ir c u la tio n and an increase o f $40,200,000 in d e p o sits, are shown in the
Federal Reserve Board*s weekly bank statement issued as at close of business
on J u ly 12 , 1922. Discounted b i l l s held by the reserve banks decreased by
$68, 900,000, acceptances purchased in open market increased by $2 , 600,000 . >.
and United S ta te s s e c u r it ie s - by $6,300,000* Government d e p o sits f e l l o f f
$15,300,000, w hile members’ reserve d e p o sits increased by $56,200,000. The
reserve r a t i o shows a r is e for the week from 76.8 to 7 7 -3 Per cent.
D e p o s its.o f imported gold, as w e ll es s h i f t i n g of gold through the gold
settlem ent fund account fo r a combined increase o f $40,200,000 in the gold
reserves of the New York, Chicago, Boston, San Francisco, Cleveland, Richmond
and Minneapolis banks. The la r g e s t increase, v i z . , by $16,900, 000, i s shown
for the New York bank, Chicago w ith an increase o f $12,300,000 and Boston
w ith an increase o f $6,100,000 follow in g next in order. P h ila d e lp h ia reports
the la r g e s t decrease in gold reserves, v i z . , $10,600,000, follow ed by St. ^
Louis, with a decrease fo r the week of $9 , 600,000,
Holdings of paper secured by Government o b lig a tio n s d eclin ed from
$185,400,000 to $157,600,000. Of the t o ta l h eld, $103,800,000 or 65.9 per
cent, were secured by L ib e r ty and other U, S. bonds, $5,400,000, or 3*^
cent, - by V ic to r y n otes, $32,500,000, or 20.6 per cen t, - by Treasury notes,
and $15,900,000, or 1 0 ,1 per cen t, - by Treasury c e r t i f i c a t e s , compared w ith
$128, 300,000, $6, 300, 000, $33, 600,000 and $17, 200,000 reported the week b efore,
