CCHDITIOH OF FEDERAL UNSERVE BASKS The c o n s o l i d a t e d s t a t e m e n t of c o n d i t i o n of t h e F e d e r a l Reserve banks on January 22, made p u b l i c ty t h e F e d e r a l Reserve Board, shows d e c r e a s e s f o r the week of $9,100,000 i n h o l d i n g s of d i s c o u n t e d b i l l s , $25,000,000 i n b i l l s bought i n open market and $2,400,000 i n U. S. s e c u r i t i e s . Member bank r e serve d e p o s i t s i n c r e a s e d $2,200,000, Government d e p o s i t s $9,500,000 and c a s h r e s e r v e s $17,000,000, while F e d e r a l r e s e r v e n o t e c i r c u l a t i o n d e c l i n e d $43,100,000. T o t a l b i l l s and s e c u r i t i e s were $36,800,000 below t h e amount r e p o r t e d a week ago. The p r i n c i p a l changes i n h o l d i n g s of b i l l s d i s c o u n t e d by F e d e r a l r e s e r v e banks f o r t h e week were i n c r e a s e s of $19,000,000 a t the F e d e r a l Reserve Bank of Uew York and $4,600,000 a t San F r a n c i s c o , and d e c l i n e s of $12,100,000 a t C l e v e l a n d , $13,200,000 a t Chicago and $5,300,000 a t Richmond. The System's h o l d i n g s of b i l l s bought i n open market d e c r e a s e d $25,000,000 and of Treasury n o t e s $ 6 , 0 0 0 , 0 0 0 , while h o l d i n g s of Treasury c e r t i f i c a t e s and b i l l s i n c r e a s e d $3,600,000. F e d e r a l r e s e r v e n o t e c i r c u l a t i o n was $43,100,000 l e s s than a week ago, a l l F e d e r a l r e s e r v e banks e x c e p t Chicago r e p o r t i n g d e c r e a s e s f o r t h e week. The p r i n c i p a l changes by F e d e r a l r e s e r v e banks were an i n c r e a s e of $8,900,000 a t Chicago and d e c r e a s e s of $13,600,000 a t Boston, $10,500,000 a t P h i l a d e l p h i a , $8,700,000 a t New York, $5,800,000 a t Cleveland and $4,900,000 a t San F r a n cisco.
