FEDERAL RESERVE Factors Affecting Bank Reserves and Condition Statement of F.R. Banks H.4.1 For immediate release December 6, 1962 The average of daily figures of to ta l member bank reserves held during the week ended December 5 decreased $92 million to $19*527 m illion. Estimated currency and coin of member banks decreased $60 m illion and th eir reserve balances at the Federal Reserve Banks decreased $32 m illion. Estimated required reserves increased $82 million^ and estimated excess reserves decreased $174 million to $365 m illion. Excess reserves exceeded member bank borrowings at the Federal Reserve Banks by $273 m illion, compared with the revised figure of $444 m illion the week before. The principal changes reducing average reserve balances with Federal Reserve Banks were a decrease of $277 million in Federal Reserve flo a t and increases of $53 m illion in "other" deposits with Federal Reserve Banks, $51 million in currency in circulation, and $45 million in "other1' F. R. accounts (net). The principal offsetting changes were increases of $229 million in U. S. Government securities bought outright and $170 million held under repurchase agreement. Total Reserve Bank credit increased $ll4 million. As of bought outright securities held bank borrowings bonds increased Wednesday, December 5, holdings of U. S. Government securities were $2l6 m illion higher than a week e a rlie r, U. S. Government under repurchase agreement were $10 m illion higher, and member were $88 million higher. Outright holdings of b i lls , notes, and $3 m illion, $105 m illion, and $108 m illion, respectively.
