CONDITION OF FEDERAL RESERVE BANKS.
Aggregate gains of $16,900>000,..of. gold and of $ *,3 0 0 ,0 0 0 of other re­
serve cash, accompanied lay a reduction of $ 3 , 100,000 in deposit liabilities and
an increase .of $1 3 ,3 00 ,0 0 0 in Federal reserve note circulation, are shown in
the Federal Reserve Eoard’ s weekly bank statement issued as at close of business
on August- 2 , 1922.
The reserve ratio shows a rise for the week from 79 ,2 to
79*6 per cent.
Discounted bills held by the reserve banks showed an increase of
$ 1 9 , 800, 000 , b ills purchased in open market fell off $ 5 , 600, 000, while govern. ment securities, mainly Treasury certificates, show a reduction for the week
of $ * 3 , 500 , 000,
No material changes in the ownership of gold are shown, an addition of
$ 1 *,6 0 0 ,0 0 0 to the gold reserves of the New York Bank representing the bulk
of the increase in gold reserves reported for the week*
Additions, aggregating $390*000, to the capital accoimt of the reserve
banks represent chiefly increases in capitalization of existing member banks*
Holdings o.f paper secured by Government obligations show an increase
from $115,200,000 to $13 0,30 0 ,0 0 0.
Of the total held $1 0 0,80 0 ,0 0 0, or 7 7 ,*
per cent, were secured by Liberty and other U. S. bonds, $3 }80 0,00 0 , or 2 ,9
per cent, by Victory notes, $ 1 8 ,0 0 0 ,0 0 0 , or 13.8 per cent, by Treasury notes,
and $ 7 , 700 , 000, or 5 .9 per cent/Treasury certificates, compared with
$9 3 , 200 , 000, $ 5 ,* 00 , 000, $ 1 2 , 300 , 000, and $*^ 300,000 reported the week before,
