CONDITION OF FEDERAL RESERVE BANKS The consolidated statement of condition of the Federal Reserve Banks on August l 4 , made p u b l i c by the Federal Reserve Board, shows a decrease f o r the week oif $36,100,000 i n holdings of discounted "bills and of $3,300,000 in Government s e c u r i t i e s , and an i n c r e a s e of $38,700,000 in b i l l s bought in open market. Member bank r e s e r v e deposits increased $7,500,000, Federal reserve note circu« l a t i o n $4,300,000, and cash r e s e r v e s $5,500,000, while Government deposits dec l i n e d $6,600,000. Total b i l l s and s e c u r i t i e s showed l i t t l e change f o r the week» Holdings of discounted b i l l s declined $99,500,000 a t the Federal Reserve Bank of New York and increased $26,400,000 a t Cleveland, $15,300,000 a t P h i l a d e l p h i a , $9,200,000 a t Boston and $7,900,000 a t Chicago. The System's holdings of b i l l s bought i n open market increased $38,700,000, of U. S. bonds 0800,000, and of Treasury c e r t i f i c a t e s $1,800,000, while holdings of Treasury -notes declined $5,900,000. The p r i n c i p a l changes in Federal reserve note c i r c u l a t i o n were increases of $3,400,000 a t Cleveland, $3,200,000 a t Boston and $2,400,000 a t P h i l a d e l p h i a , and a decrease of $3,200,000 a t Chicago.
