CONDITION OF EEDERAL RESERVE B.ANI~S

The consolidated statement of condition of the Federal reserve banks on July 30,
made public by the Federal Reserve Board, shows an increase of $2~·,100, 0~ in t?~al
earning assets, holdings of Government securities having increased by $2~::; ,lOO,O•Jv a' d
those of discountea bills by $3,100,000, while holdings of acceptances purchased i11
open market declined by $7,100,000. Federal reserve note c ircu1ation d~clined. by
$21,100,000 and cash reserves by $13,500,000, wnile deposit liabilities increased by
$19 '900, ooo.
Pln increase of $7,300,000 in holdings of d.iscounted. bills is shown for the
Federal Reserve Barik of New York, and a decrease of $4,700,000 for the Richmond bank,
the remaining banks reporting relatively small changes in this item. Holdings of
paper secured by U. S. Government obligatic:ns increased by $6,800,000 to $92,100, COC.
Of the latter amount, $74,300,000 was secured by Liberty and other U. S. bonds,
$16,700,000 by Treasury notes, a.rxl $1,000,000 by certificates of indebtedness.

All Federal reserve banks report decreases in their holdings of acceptances
purchased in open market, the New York reserve bank showing the largest decline, of
$2,900,000 •. Of the total increase of $28,100,000 in holdings of C·overnment securities,
$16,100,000 was in Treasury notes, $10,100,000 in bonds, and $1,900,000 in certificates of ind.ebtedness.
Federal reserve note circulation declined at all of the reserve banks except
Boston, which shows an increase of $800,000. The largest decreases were as follows:
New York $5,800,000, Chicago $4,6oo,ooo, Cleveland $3,200,000, and. San Francisco
$3,000,000. Gold reserves declined by $12,600,000 during the week, Reserves other
than gold. by $900,000, and Non-reserve cash by $5,500,000.
