NEGOTIABLE TIME CERTIFICATES OF DEPOSIT

The total of outstanding negotiable time certificates of deposit
(CD's) in denominations of $100,000 or more at large commercial banks as of
February 26 was $20.0 billion, compared with $21.0 billion reported outstanding
in the January 29 survey.
The certificates maturing on the March 10, March 17, and April 15 tax
and dividend dates totaled $1,699 million, compared to $2,365 million for the
corresponding survey a year ago.
The average maturity of total certificates outstanding at 3.4 months,
was slightly shorter than the average reported for the previous month's survey.
For the comparable survey a year ago, average maturity for outstanding certificates
was 2.9 months.
The distribution of maturities by bank size is shown on the back of
this release.
