DEPARTMENT STORES IN SEPTEMBER 1930
Preliminary r e p o r t
Department s t o r e s a l e s in September were 7 per cent smaller than in the
corresponding month a year ago, according to preliminary r e p o r t s made to the
Federal r e s e r v e system by 532 s t o r e s l o c a t e d i n l e a d i n g c i t i e s of a l l Federal
r e s e r v e d i s t r i c t s ; on a d a i l y average b a s i s s a l e s were 11 per cent smaller
than a year ago.
Sales during t h e f i r s t nine months of t h i s year were 6 per cent below
the l e v e l of a year ago.
