DEPART!,ENT STORE SALES IN MAY 1936
Preliminary report
Department store sales increased from April to May, although a decline
is usual at this season. The Board's seasonally adjusted index, which makes
allowance for differences in the number of business days, was 88 percent for
May compared with 81 percent for April and an average of 82 percent for the
first four months of the year.
Aggregate value of sales reported for May was 12 percent larger and for
the first five months of 1936, 9 percent larger than in the corresponding
periods of 1935•
