Bank debits for the week ending September 26 totaled $8,838,99^,000, marking a
decrease of 9 per cent from the total of $9 , 7^9 » 127,000 reported for the preceding
week. The principal decreases reported for the largercenters were as follows:
New York City $4l6,S60,000, Chicago $67,572,000, Boston $54,558,000, San Francisco
$42,734,000, and Philadelphia $27,774,000.
As compared with the week ending September 27 of last year, total debits for 1
the week under review show an increase of $307,164,000, or 4 per cent. All the irn*
portant centers, except New York and Minneapolis, show increases over last year*s
figures. The principal increases were reported for Los Angeles, Detroit, San Fran>»
cisco, Pittsburgh, and Cleveland* For New York City a decrease of $9 7 , 786,000 is
shown.
Debits to individual accounts were reported to the Federal Reserve Board for
banks in 250 centers, of which 246 are included in the summary by Federal reserve
districts.
