BANK DEBITS

Volume of business for the week ending September 27 was $8 ,2 2 4 ,0 0 0 ,0 0 0 , or at
approximately the same level as two weeks ago but 13 P®r cent below the total re­
ported for the week ending September 20 with its heavy income tax and mid-month pay­
ments.
Smaller figures are reported for all the leading centers, with the exception
of Pittsburgh and Detroit.
As compared with the week ending September 2 8 , 1921, the volume of business for
the week under review shows an increase of $757 ,0 0 0 ,0 0 0 , or about 10 per cent.
Larger figures as compared with last year are reported for a ll the leading centers,
except Baltimore and San Francisco. Pittsburgh with an increase in the volume of
business of 34 per cent, and Detroit with an increase of 47 per cent report the most
notable advances.
The voltme of business is measured by debits to individual accounts reported to
the Federal Reserve Board for banks in leading centers.
The total number of centers
reporting this week is 248, of which 166 are included in the summary by Federal re­
serve districts.
