Debits to individual account of the banks belonging to 1*49
country's
more important Clearing House Associations for the week ending September 8 (cover­
ing 5 business days only) - totaled 7 )13*+ millions, a decrease of 1,286 millions
for the week. With the exception of Detroit, Dallas and San Francisco all the
larger centers report smaller totals than the week before. Over two-thirds of
the total decrease for the week, or 821 millions, is shown for the New York City
banks, Aggregate debits for the corresponding week in 1919 - composed of 6
business days - were 1,209 millions or about 17 per cent larger than for the
week under review.
For the 36 weeks of the present year weekly debits of the New York City
banks averaged 4,525 millions, or about 5 per cent more than last year, while
the like average for 142 other cities, 4,555 millions, was about 20 per cent
larger than in 1919,
