BANK DEBITS

Debits to individual accounts for the week ending October 1 as r^gg'ted by banks
in leading c it ie s to the Federal Reserve Board aggregated $ 1 0 ,6 l 0 , 0 0 0 /or 10«2 per cent
above the total of $9,630,000,000 shown fo r the preceding week. New Ycrk City reports
an increase of $701,000,000, Chicago - an increase of $58>000,000 and Philadelphia an increase of $54,000,000. Detroit shews a decline of $28,000,000.
As compared with the corresponding period in 1923 debits for the week under re­
view show an increase of $54-5,000,000 or 5 Pei> cent*
New York City reports an in­
crease of $725,000,000, New Orleans - an increase of $23,000,000 and Minneapolis - an
increase of $14,000,000.
San Francisco reports a decline of $41,000,000, and P itts­
burgh and Los Angeles show declines of $22,000,000 each.
Aggregate debits for l 4 l centers fo r which figures have oeen published weekly
since January, 1919, were $10,030,554,000 as compared with $9 , 090, 307,000 for the pre­
ceding week and $9r4 5 7 ,240,000 for the week ending October 3» 1923*
Debits to individual accounts were reported to the Federal Reserve Board for
banks in 250 centers, of which 242 are included, in the summary by Federal reserve
d is t r ic t s .
