STATEMENT FOR THE PRESS
BANK DEBITS

Board of Governors
of the Federal Reserve System
March 5, 1938

Debits to individual accounts, as reported by banks in leading cities for the
week ended March 2, aggregated $8,572,000,000, or 46 percent above the total re­
ported for the preceding week, which included only five business days, and 21 percent
below the total for the corresponding week, of last year.
Aggregate debits for the l4l cities for which a separate total has been main­
tained since January 1919 amounted to 07,910,000,000, compared with 05,362,000,000
the preceding week and $10,105,000,000 the week ended March 3 of last year.
