BANK DEBITS

Debits to individual accounts, as reported by brinks in leading c it ie s for the
week ending March 26 aggregated $9,820,000,000 or about 2.6 per cent below the total
of $10 , 096, 000,000 reported for the previous week. Host of the important centers
reported smaller figures than for the w^ek before, whicn included tne usual mid-month
payments and also a large portion of the f i r s t installment of income tax payments.
An increase of about $105,000,'000 is reported- for New York City, while decreasesof
$33,000,000 are reported for Boston, $32,000,000 - for Los Angeles, $31,000,000 for San Francisco, and $29,000,000 - for St. Louis.
As compared with the corresponding period in 1923, debits for the week tinder re­
view show an increase of $650,000,000, or of about 7 Per cent.
Increased figures are
reported by most of the large centers. Hew York City reports an increase of
$459,000,000, Chicago - an increa.se of $59*000,000, Detroit - an increase of
$39,000,000, and Los Angeles - an increase of $33,000,000.
Aggregate debits for l4 ^ cg*nters for which figures have been published weekly
since January, 1919, w ere/$9,290,000,000 as compared with $9,516,434,000 for the
preceding week and $8,644,227,000 for the v»&ek ending March 23, 1923«
Debits to individual accounts were reported to the Federal Reserve Board for
banks in 250 centers, of which 244 are i'icIvcMd in the summary by Federal reserve
d is t r ic ts .
