BANI DEBITS

Bolow is given the Federal Reserve Board's weekly statement of debits to
individual account, reported through the Federal Reserve banks by over 150 of
the country1s more important clearing houses* Transactions cover the weekly
periods ending ‘Wednesday, Larch 17 and 10 of the present year and March 19#
1919* The statement closes with a recapitulation giving comparative figures
bj reserve districts for centers reporting complete data for the three weeks
under review*
Deoits to individual Account reported by 150 of the principal clearing
house cities -aggregated 10 , 27? millions, as compared with g ,S l 5 millions shown
the week before.
Income and excess profits tax payments due on March 15 , also
the increase in the volume of stock exchange transactions, account for the
large increase wnich is shared by all the important centers, except New Orleans
and Dallas* Of the total increase for the week of about 1 ,U 62 millions the
share of New fork City is 7^5*^ millions, or about 5^
cent*
For the week ending March 19$ 19^9 > debits to individual /account aggre­
gated 3,105 millions, or 2,172 millions less than for the corresponding week
of the current year. For New York City an increase since last year of 933
millions, or of ?*bout 22 per cent is shown, while for the other 1^9 centers
the aggregate increase is 1,239 millions, or about 33 per cent*
