BOARD OF GOVERNORS OF THE FEDERAL RESERVE SYSTEM June 12, 1959 (For Immediate Release) G.6 BANK DEBITS TO DEMAND DEPOSIT ACCOUNTS •Rank debits to demand deposit accounts, except interbank and Government accounts, as reported by banks in 344 leading centers for the month of May aggregated $2l6 billion. During the past three months debits amounted to <p666 billion or 10.4 per cent above the total reported for the corresponding period a year ago. At "hanks in New York City there was an increase of 2.5 per cent compared with the corresponding three-months period a year ago; at 6 other centers the increase was 17.5 per cent; and at 337 other centers it was 15.O per cent. Preliminary estimates of the annual rates of turnover of demand deposits in May are 54.9 at New York City, 32.8 at 6 other centers, and 24.6 at 337 other centers.
