BANK

DEBITS

Volume of business for the week ending June 7>
measured by debits to
individual accounts reported to 'Ohe Federal Reserve Board for banks in 155 ■
•
clearing house centers, totaled $9,633,000,000, or about 32 P©r cent in excess
of the total of $7,315,000,000 for the preceding week. End-of-month settlements,
payments for the $200,000,000 of Treasury certificates of the June 1 series, the
larger number of business days in the week (6 instead of 5
ttoe dosing week^
of May) and a heavier volume of stock exchange transactions largely account for
the increase shown.
Larger average daily figures are shown for all the more
important cities, except Pittsburgh, St. Louis, and Kansas City.
For the banks
in New York City the total increase for the week was about 36 per cent.
As compared with the week ending June S, 1921 the volume of business for
the week under review shows an increase of $ 1 , 568, 000, 000, or of over 19 Pe^ cen •
Nearly 75 per cent of this increase is reported by New York City, Larger figures
than for last year are also reported for the other leading centers, except
Pittsburgh, Minneapolis, Kansas City and San Francisco.
The total number of centers reporting this week is 246, of which 165 ar®
included in the summary by Federal reserve districts.
