STATEMENT FOR THE PRESS Released for publication Sunday morning, Juns 10; not earlier. St. 3550 Federal Reserve Board June 9, 1923. BANK DEBITS Banks debits for the week ending June 6 totaled $10,183,000,000, marking an in crease of $2 , 330 , 000 , 000, or 2 9 .7 per cent, over the total of $ 7 , 853 >000,000 reported for the previous week. This considerable increase reflects in part the customary end-of-month swell in the volune of debits to depositors’ accounts, partly also the larger number of business days (six instead of five in the preceding week). For New York City the increase for the week was $1,1^3,000,000, or over 30 per cent. Larger than average rates of increases are shown also for Boston, Philadelphia, Cleveland, Pittsburgh, Baltimore, St. Louis, Kansas City, and San Francisco. As compared with the week ending June 7> 1922, total debits for the week under review show an increase of $228,000,000, or of 2.3 per cent. Larger figures than for last year are shown for all the important centers, except Hew York City, Chicago and Washington, which show decreases of about 9> 1*+ and. 1 per cent respectively. Debits to individual accounts were reported to the Federal Reserve Board for banks in 250 centers, of which 243 are included in the sumn.ary by Federal reserve districts.
