BANK DEBITS
Volume of business, as measured by debits to individual accounts reported
to the Federal Reserve Board for banks in 155 important clearing house centers,
increased frcta $7,335,000,000 for the week ending July 13 to $7,417,000,000
for the week ending July 20, an increase of $82,000,000, or about 1 per cent.
Several of the leading centers, including Detroit and San Francisco, report
considerably smaller totals than the week before.
As compared with the corresponding week in 1920, debits for the week end­
ing July 20 are smaller by $1,798,000,000, or about 19 per cent cent, this,
lag being comparable with 21 per cent shown for the preceding week. For New
York City debits for the week under review were 13 per cent below the cor­
responding figures in 1920 .
