Released for publication Sunday morning, July 13; not e a rlie r BANK DEBITS Debits to individual accounts, as reported by banks in leading c it ie s fo r the week ending July 9 , aggregated $ 8 ,2 *9,000,000 or 27 .6 per cent below the to ta l of $11,386,000,000 reported fo r the preceding week. This large decline i s due in pare to the fact that the week under review included a holiday, July 4 , and also in part to the heavy end of month transactions which were included in the figures for the preceding week. New York City reports a decrease o£ $ 1 ,8 5 2 ,0 0 0 ,0 0 0 , Chicago - a de crease of $ 2 6 5,0 0 0,0 0 0 , Philadelphia - a decrease of $12*,000,000 and Boston - a de crease o f $1 1 1 , 000 , 000. As compared with the week ending July 11, 1923 1 which contained six business days, debits fo r the week under review show a decrease of $1 , 5 1 9 , 000,000 or 15*6 per cent. Declines of $63*,000,000 for New York City, $102,000,000 for Chicago, $57,000,000 fo r Philadelphia, $*5,000,000 fo r Los Angeles and. smaller declines for a l l of the other important centers are shown. Aggregate debits fo r 1*1 centers fo r which figures have been published weekly since January, 1 9 1 9 , were about $ 7 ,7 2*,000,000 as compared with $10,752,560,000 for the preceding week and $9,152,122,000 for the week ending July 11, 1923. Debits to individual accounts were reported to the Federal Reserve Board for banks in 253 centers, of which 2*2 are included in the strrmary by Federal r.es&rve d is tr ic ts .
