Debits to individual accounts, as reported to the Federal Reserve Board by
banks in leading cities for the week ended January 3, aggregated $7,763,000,000
or 47 per cent above the total reported for the preceding week and 4 per cent
below the total for the corresponding week of last year. Each of the three weeks
included but five business days.
Aggregate debits for the l4l cities for which a separate total has been main­
tained since January 1919 amountod to $7,223,000,000, compared with
$4,905,000,000 the preceding week and $7>522,000,000 the week ended January 4 of
last year.
