BANK DEPITS

Aggregate debits to individual account, as reported for
banks in 156 of the country’ s leading clearing house centers for
the week ending January 26, were 8,139 millions, a reduction of
1,003millions or 11 per cent from the total of 9, 1*2 millions re­
ported for the preceding week. Considerable reductions in the
volume of debits are reported frcm all the leading centers,
larger than average relative declines being shown for Boston,
Detroit, St. Louis and San Francisco.
As canpared with the corresponding week a year earlier,
debits for the week under review were smaller by 8* * millions,
or about 9 per cent, reduced totals being shown for all the
leading centers, except Pittsburgh and Los Angeles*
