January 3, 1938

For immediate release

Debits to individual accounts, as reported by banks in leading cities for the
week ended December 29, which included only five business days, aggregated
#8,525,000,000, or 17 percent below the total reported for the preceding week and
12 percent below the total for the corresponding week of last year, which also in­
cluded only five business days.
Aggregate debits for the l4l cities for which a separate total has been main**
tained since January 1919 amounted to $7,884,000,000, Compared with $9,458,000,000
the preceding week and $9,005,000,000 the week ended December 30 of last year.
