BANK DEBITS

Debits to individual accounts, as reported to the Ftederal Reserve Board by
banks in leading cities, aggregated $12,033>000,000 or 1.4 per cent above the
total of $11,869,000,000 reported for the preceding week. The largest increases
are as follows: Boston $79,000,000, Chicago $30,000,000, Philadelphia $24,000,000,
and Detroit $23,000,000, The principal decline, $16,000,000, was reported for
banks in Cleveland.

As compared with the week ending January 23, 1924, debits for the week/show
an increase of $2 , 273,000,000 or 23. 4 per cent, most of the leading centers re­
porting increases. New York City shows an increase of $1,401,000,000. Other
increases are as follows: Chicago $153,000,000, Boston - $145,000,000, Phila­
delphia $80,000,000, San Francisco - $36,000,000, Minneapolis - $34,000,000 and.
St. Louis $29,000,000.
Aggregate debits for l4l centers for which figures have been published
weekly since January, 1919, aggregated $11,368,617,000 as compared with
$11,219, 491,000 for the preceding week and $9 , 193*755,000 for the week ending
January 2 3 , 1924.
Debits to individual accounts were reported to the Federal Reserve Board
for banks in 253 centers, of which 247 are included in the s-ummary by Federal
reserve districts.
