BANK DEBITS

Debits to deposit accounts (except interbank accounts), as reported by bankr
in leading cities for the week ended January 8, aggregated $ 1 0 , 7 0 1 , 0 0 0 , 000 , Total
debits during the 1 3 weeks ended January 8 amounted to $ 12 5 > 0 19 , 0 0 0 ,0 0 0 , or 9 per
cent above the total reported for the corresponding period a year ago. At banks in
New York City there was an increase of 8 per cent compared with the corresponding
period a year ago, and at the other reporting centers there was an increase of
10 per cent.
