STATEMENT FOR THE PRESS
BANK DEBITS

Board of Governors
of the Federal Reserve System
February 27, 1939

Debits to individual accounts, as reported by banks in leading cities for the
week ended February 22, aggregated <^6,471,000,000, or 8 percent beiow the total re~
ported for the preceding week and 10 percent above the total for the corresponding
week of last year. The current week and the corresponding week of last year had °
only five business days, mhile the week ended February 15 had only five business
days in most of the reporting centers.
Aggregate debits for the l4l cities for which a separate total has been main­
tained since January 1919 amounted to $5,922,000,000, compared with 06,478,000,000
the preceding week and $5,364,000,000 the week ended February 23 of last year.
