BANK CEBITS

Bank debits for the week ending February 14 shew t. e customary mid-month re­
cession, the total being $8,384,000,000, compared with $9 ,903 , 000, 0^0 for the pre­
ceding week. Smaller figures are shown for all tne leading centers, particularly
heavy reductions being reported for Mew York City, where the decrease amounted to
$921,000,000, or IS per cent, and for Pittsburgn, where a decline of $83,000,000, or
32 per cent is shown.
As compared with tne total for the week ending February 15, 1922, debits for
the report week snow an increase of $1,037,000,000, or about 14 per cent. Larger
figures are shown for all the leading cities, tne increases being particularly
notable in Detroit, where it was 26 per cent, in Los Angeles, where it was 29 per
cent, and in Pittsburgh which reports an advance of 51 per cent.
Debits to individual accounts were reported to the Federal Reserve Board for
banks in 250 centers, of wnich 235 are included in the summary by Federal reserve
districts.
