BANK DEBITS—DEBITS TO DEPOSIT ACCOUNTS EXCEPT INTERBANK ACCOUNTS

Bank debits as reported by banks in 342 leading centers for the month o
January aggregated 138,520 million dollars. During the past three months Total
debits amounted to 415,479 million dollars or 4 per cent above the total reported
for the corresponding period a year ago. At banks in New York City there was an
increase of 1 per cent compared with the corresponding three-months period a year
ago, and at the other centers there was an increase of 5 per cent.
