BANS DEBITS

Below is given the Federal Reserve Board's weekly statement of debits to
individual account, reported through the Federal Reserve banks by over 15 O of
the country’s more important clearing houses. Transactions cover the weekly
periods ending Wednesday Docomber 3 and November 26 , of the present year, and
in case of most of the reporting centers also the weekly period ending a year
earlier, i .eDcccaabcr 4, lJIS.
Total debits to individual account show a further reduction of over 500
millions from the figure for the week before, the week under review including
only five business days. All the large centers, except Boston, Cleveland and
etroit, report smaller figures under this head than for the preceding week.
As compared with corresponding 191S figures, available for l46 cities, an in
crease of about 34 per cent in the total of debits to individual account is
shown, all the large cities participating in the increase. For New York City
the increase is nearly 40 per cent.
The statement closes with a recapitulation giving comparative figures by re
serve districts for 155 centers reporting complete data for the two most recent
weeks, also like figures for the 146 centers for which data are available for the
past week and, the week ending December 4 of last year.
