E. 285 STATEMENT FOR: THE PRESS For immediate release 3ANK DEBITS Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System Decenber 30 , 1940 Debits to deposit accounts (except interbank accounts), as reported by banks in leading cities for the week ended December 25? aggregated $9,971,000,000. Total debits during the 13 weeks ended December 25 amounted to $121,323,000,000, or 8 percent above the total reported for the corresponding period a year ago. At banks in New York City there was an increase of 8 percent compared with the corresponding period a year ago, and at the other reporting centers there was an increase of 9 percent.
