For immediate release

Debits to individual accounts, as reported by banks in leading cities for the
week ended December 22, aggregated 010,247,000,000, or 6 percent above the total
reported for the preceding \reek and 18 percent below the total for the corresponding
week of last year.
Aggregate debits for the l4l cities for which a separate total has been main­
tained since January 1919 amounted to $9,458,000,000, compared with $8,967,000,000
the preceding week and §11,589,000,000 the week ended December 23 of last year.
