BANK DEBITS

Board of Governors
of the Federal Reserve System
December 18, 1939

Debits to individual accounts, as reported by banks in leading cities for
the week ended December 13 , aggregated $9,230,000,000, or 2 percent above the total
reported for the preceding week, which included only five business days in many of
the reporting centers, and 9 percent above the total for the corresponding week of
last year.
Aggregate debits for the l4l cities for which a separate total' has been
maintained since Janaary 1919 amounted to $8,506,000,000, compared with
$8,338,000,000 the preceding weak and $7,830,000,000 the week ended December 14 of
last year.
