BANK DEBITS
Debits to individual accounts, as reported to the Federal Reserve Board for
the week ending August 5, aggregated $11,415,000,000 or 11.5 percent above the
total of $10,235,000,000 reported for the preceding week. New York City reported
^
of $600,000,OOU,/ ‘ other large increases were as follows.* Chicago
$94,000,000, Boston $85,000,000, San Francisco $48,000,000, Los Angeles
*21,000,000, Baltimore $20,000,000, and St. Louis $19,000,000. The largest reduc­
tion, $26,000,000, was reported ty Pittsburgh.
As compared with the week ending August 6, 1924, debits for the week under re­
view are larger by $1,253,000,000 or 12.3 per cent. Substantial increases are
shown for all of the more inportant centers, the principal increases being as fol­
lows:^ New York City $538,000,000, Chicago $139,000,000, Detroit $46,000,000, San
SVanc;isoo $41,000,000, Boston $36,000,000, Philadelphia, Cleveland and St. Louis
$27,000,000 each, and Pittsburgh $26,000,000.
Aggregate debits for l4l centers for which figures have been published weekly
since January, 1919 were about $10,753,000,000, as compared with $9,646,896,000 for
the preceding week and $9,577,181,000 for the week ending August 6, 1924.
Debits to individual accounts were reported tc the Federal Reserve Board for
banks in 253 centers, of which 250 are included, in the summary by Federal reserve
districts.
