BANK DEBITS

Debits to individual accounts as reported by bar>s in leading c i t i e s fo r the
week erding August 27, aggregated $9,046,000,00: or 1,1 per cent below the to ta l of
$9,146,000,000 fo r the preceding week. New York City reports an increase o f
$296,000,000, D etroit - an increase of $16,000,000, and Baltimore - an increase of
$11,000,000,
San Francisco shows a d eclin e of $63,000,000, Los Angeles - a decline
o f $32,000r,000; St. Louis - a decline of $28,000,000, Chicago - a decline of
$25,000,000 and Cleveland - a decline o f $24,000,000.
As compared with the week ending August 29 , 1923» debits fo r the week under re­
view show an increase o f $1,510,000,000 or 20 per cent. Increases are shown fo r most
o f the more important centers. Hew York City reports an increase of $1,306,000,000,
Chicago - an increase of $68,000,000, Boston - an increase o f $62,000,000, and De­
tr o it - an increase of $40,000,000.
Aggregate debits fo r l4 l centers fo r which figures have been published weekly
siree January, 19 19 , were $8,553,734,000 as compared with $8,598,256,000 fo r the precedizg week and $7,064,857,000 fo r the week ending August 29, 1923*
Debits to individual accounts were raported to the Federal Reserve Board for
banks in 254 centers, o f which 244 are included in the summary by Federal reserve
d is t r ic t s .
