Debits to individual accounts, as reported ty banks in leading c it ie s for the
week ending July 30, ' aggregated $9 , 340, 000,000 or .8 per cent below the to ta l o f
$9 , 417, 000,000 reported fo r the previous week. Most of the larger centers r e p o r ts
smaller figures than fo r a week e a r lie r. New York City reports an increase o f
^ 02, 000,000 and Pittsburgh - an increase of $ 15, 000 , 000 . Decreases of $*+7 , 000 , OX'
1 fo r Detroit and o f $1+4,000,000 for Chicago are also shown.
As conpared with the week ending August 1, 1923, debits fo r tne week under re­
view shew an increase o f $635*000,000 or 7»3 Per cen,t« An increase o f j>78 7 , 000, 0o 0
is reported by banks in New York City and'an increase o f $ 12, 000,000 - by banks in
New Orleans. Chicago reports a decline o f $4 ^ , 000 , 000 , Cleveland - a decline of
* $ 29, 000,000 and Baltimore, - a decline o f $ 16, 000, 000.
Aggregate debits fo r l4 l centers for which figures have been published weekly
since January, 1919» were $8 ,828,259,000 as compared with $8,869,61+5,000 fo r the
preceding week and $8,190,172,000 for the week ending August 1, 1923*
Debits to individual accodnts were reported to the Federal Reserve Board for
banks in 253 centers, of which 242 are included in the summary by Federal reserve
d is t r ic t s .
