DEBITS

Debits to individual accounts, as reported 'fcy banks in leading c i t i e s for the
weekending August 13, aggregated $9,392,.000,000 or 7*3 Per cent below the to ta l of
$10,135,000,000 reported fo r the preceding week. New York City reports a decrease
of $U73,000,000, Boston - a decrease of $55,000,000, Chicago - a decrease o f
$38,000,000 and Philadelphia - a decrease o f $30,000,000. Snail increases are shown
fo r a few of the important centers.
As compared with the week ending August 15, 1923* d e b its fo r the week under review
show an increase o f $2,016,000,000 or 27*3 Per cent. Most of the larger centers re­
port increases over la st y ea r’ s figures. Hew York City shows an increase cf
$1,659,000,000, Boston - an increase of $50,000,000, Chicago - an increase c f
$74,000,000, and Philadelphia - an increase o f $34,000,000.
Aggregate d eb its fo r lM-1 centers fo r which figures have been published weekly
since January, 1919, were $8,880,440,000 as-compared with $9;,-577, 181,00Q for tas pre­
ceding week and 16,892,04-7,000 for the week ending August 15, 19--3*
Debits to individual accounts were.reported to the Federal Reserve Board fo r
banks in 255 centers, of which 243 are included in the summary by Federal reserve
d is t r ic t s ,
