Debits to individual accounts, as reported to the Federal Reserve Board by
banks in leading cities for the week ending August 12, aggregated $10,360,000,000
or 9«^pBr^cent b8low the total of $11,430,000,000 reported for the preceding west
Mew York City report«d a reduction of $592>000,COG.,' while other large reductions
were as follows: Chicago $145,000,000, Boston $75,000,000, Pittsburgh $29,000,000.
San Francisco $21,000,000, and Cleveland and Detroit $19,000,000 each.
As compared with the week ending August 13, 1924, debits for the week under
review are larger by $927,000,000 or 9»8 psr cent. Substantial increases are
shown for all of the more important centers, the principal increases being as
follows: New York City $4l4,000,000, Philadelphia $45,000,000, San Francisco
$3o»000,000, Chicago $32,000,000, Buffalo $26,000,000, and Detroit $24,000,000.
Aggregate debits for, l4l centers for which figures have been piihK' shed, weekly
since January, 1919 were $9,719,489,000, as compared with $10,759,237,000 for the
preceding week and $8,880,41)0,000 for the week ending August 13, 1924.
. Debits to individual accounts were reported to the Jtedsral Beserve Board, for
.banks in 256 centers, of which 254 are included in the summary by Federal reserve
district s.
