BAM DEBITS

Below is given the Federal Reserve Board's weekly statement of debits to
individual account reported through the Federal Reserve Banks by over 150 of
the country's more important clearing houses, Transactions cover the weekly
periods ending Wednesday, Aug. 11 and Aug. 4 of the present year and Aug* 13,
1919. The statement closes with a recapitulation giving comparative figures
by Reserve Districts for cities reporting complete data for the three weeks
under review.
Aggregate debits to individual account reported by 15*+ clearing houses
totaled 8,3^+2 millions, or 4-97 millions less than the week before, smaller
totals being shown for all the important centers, except St. Louis and Kansas
City. As compared witn the corresponding week in 1919, total debits show a
decrease of 89*+ millions, an even larger decrease amounting to 1024 millions
in New York City being offset by an increase of 130 millions in the other re
porting centers. Average debits for the 32 weeks of the year on the basis of
1^7 reporting centers outside of New York were 4-597 millions this year as com
pared with 3772 mil-lions in 1919, shaving an increase of 21.8 per cent. For
New York City alone the 32-week average for this year figures out 6 .8 per cent
above the corresponding amount the year before.
