BANK DEBITS TO DEMAND DEPOSIT ACCOUNTS
Bank debits to demand deposit accounts, except interbank and Government
accounts, as reported by banks in 34-5 leading centers for the month of July aggregated $155 billion. During the past three months debits amounted to $468 billion
or
5*5 per cent above,, the total reported for the corresponding period a year ago.
At banks in New York City there was an increase of 1%.0 per cent compared with the
corresponding three-months period a year ago; at 6 other centers there was a decrease of 2.4 per cent; and at 338 other centers the decrease was .2 per cent.
Preliminary estimates of the annual rates of turnover of demand deposits
in July are 4-1.6 at New York City, 25.0 at 6 other centers, and 18.8 at 338 other
centers.
