G.6 BOARD OF GOVERNORS OF THE FEDERAL RESERVE SYSTEM (For Immediate Release) August 13, 1954 BANK DEBITS TO DEMAND DEPOSIT ACCOUNTS Bank debits to demand deposit accounts, except interbank and Government accounts, as reported by banks in 34-5 leading centers for the month of July aggregated $155 billion. During the past three months debits amounted to $468 billion or 5*5 per cent above,, the total reported for the corresponding period a year ago. At banks in New York City there was an increase of 1%.0 per cent compared with the corresponding three-months period a year ago; at 6 other centers there was a decrease of 2.4 per cent; and at 338 other centers the decrease was .2 per cent. Preliminary estimates of the annual rates of turnover of demand deposits in July are 4-1.6 at New York City, 25.0 at 6 other centers, and 18.8 at 338 other centers.
