BOARD OF GOVERNORS OF THE FEDERAL RESERVE SYSTEM 0.6 (For Immediate Release) August 12, 1955 BANK DEBITS TO DEMAND DEPOSIT ACCOUNTS Bank debits to demand deposit accounts, except interbank and Government accounts, as reported by banks in 344 leading centers for the month of July aggregated $162 billion. During the past three months debits amounted to $507 billion or 8.4 per cent above the total reported for the corresponding period a year ago. At banks in New York City there was an increase of 1.7 per cent compared with the corresponding three-months period a year ago; at 6 other centers the ihcrease was 12.2 per cent; and at 337 other centers it was 13.1 per cent. Preliminary estimates of the annual rates of turnover of demand deposits in July are 40.8 at New York City, 26.7 at 6 other centers, and 20.5 at 337 other centers.
